Smith, Sydney

Sydney Smith (1839-1912) from Dayton, AL, entered the University in 1856, joined the Dialectic Society, and left without receiving a degree in 1859. He served in the Confederate army, attaining the rank of lieutenant. He became a planter in Texas, sold farm machinery, and was the general manager of the Texas state fair from 1886 to 1912.
